KFD : back to school

Pencils, pens, notebook paper, crayons, markers, ruler, folders, spiral notebooks, kleenex, glue sticks ... oh my!

Yesterday, I purchased a rainbow assortment of pocket folders and spiral notebooks for the kids' return to school in just a few short weeks. Much more anticipated is the school clothes shopping, especially for the daughter. She must find the perfect pair of shoes and skirts and shirts and accessories because, y'know, that is the top subject matter of second grade.

The new school line from Karen Foster Design is perfect for documenting your kiddos' school fashion. The colors are bright, the icons are cool and the patterns are bold. There are some old school style mixed in with the new and these patterned papers are sure to be top choice on your back-to-school list.

My first project, an 8.5x11 layout featured in a KFD advertisement in the latest issue of Scrapbook Trends, uses the purple Geared Up patterned paper with its awesome argyle background.   I printed and cropped the photos to feature the K-kiddos' outfits on the first day and adhered them with foam adhesive.  Then I used the notebook punch from StampinUp with the Class Act Collage paper to make the bottom border.   Stars were punched and cut, adhered with black scrappers floss, then folded in half to add dimension.

The title "first day of school fashion" was made using two phrases from the sticker sheet.  School was embellished with coil and mini brads and adhered using foam adhesive.

The "chuck" style shoe was embellished with a coil brad and scrappers floss.   Aren't they the coolest shoes? 

The elementary school celebrates the 100th day of school with a variety of activities. K-girl and her classmates ate their way through 100 pieces of snacks [cereal, popcorn, candies] and paraded around in decorated 100 galsses. I want her to remember those cute glasses and activities, so I documented them in this 15-minute layout.

I traced the edges of the stars with a craft knife and tucked the cardstock and photo behind them. It's the perfect way to create dimension without really adding it. The title uses KFD alpha stickers and a portion of another sticker and the "grade" was another sticker. Added to that is the number bubble brad -- they're #1!



An easy way to dress up a button or add more color and dimension is to pair it with a coil brad.  Simply thread the prongs through the buttonholes and into the paper.   Cuteness.  

And with all the hub-bub of the kids' going back to school, let's not forget the teachers.  Welcome them to the new school year with a quick card.   Simply use cardstock and notebook paper border punch.   I made the apple dimensional by cutting four shapes and gluing them together.  To make the core, I simply used a decorative circle stamp from the Christmas stamp set with versamark ink. 

Tip: If you don't have a border punch, you can still make mock notebook edges. Use a handheld circle punch and punch every quarter-inch or so, then snip the paper above the hole to make it look like spiral paper. If you scrunch the edges some, it will look more realistic.

Even though there are still a few weeks before the official start of the school year, time will fly by quickly and the countdown to all things merry and bright will start.
